I really hope Coraline is great -- Neil Gaiman deserves a hit.

Hey Maryann! I just want to drop by and ask you if you can review the movie The Outlander. I'll just tell you briefly that its a fun piece of sci-fi/Viking (yep, read it again if you don't believe me) monster hunting film that's pretty rad. I was skeptical at first when I heard about it, but after finding out the movie was produced by the guy who helped create Lord of the Ring and the main character is played by the guy who portrayed Jesus in The Passion (James Caviezel) i got really curious. So I watched it, and didn't regret! It's a lot like Pathfinder, except this time the stranger is from outer-space. I was especially impressed by how the makers of the movie weren't shy to give us all the fun sci-fi and fantasy epic cliches, and actually flaunt it at us as if to say "Hey, this is so freakin' awesome!!!" and by golly it was!

Are you still updating this section? I like to use it to refer to the movies you have reviewed during the year. And also to know just where things are ranked.

I'm behind on updating this page, but I'll get to it very soon.

Yeah, this is probably the page I refer to most on this site.

Wow. That's good to know.
I'm hoping to get this page up to date this week.

I'd like to read your review of Sleep Dealer, since I saw the trailer I'm eager to see the movie ...

Yes, love the list as always. And pleased to see someone who liked "The International" as much as I did. Hardly anyone I know saw it, or even wanted to see it.
"Duplicity" for my next Clive Owen fix. My boyfriend too. :-)

I'm so angry at how Summit is handling the release of The Brothers Bloom. It's been out for 4 weeks now and it's still only playing at just 173 theaters.
I wanna watch it dammit!

Would it be possible for you to keep the lists from other years posted somewhere? I would love to be able to refer back to remind myself what movies from last year I still need to see.

"Would it be possible for you to keep the lists from other years posted somewhere..."
if you look to the right column on the screen, you'll see the category archives listed with theatrical releases going all the way back to 2006.

Comparing "Disgrace"'s ranking here with the yellow light on the right, I guess the movie fell somewhat in disgrace with you afterwards?
Well, while I'm really curious to the "why" (which might be given in your review), I really just posted this for the pun of it ...

I hope there's an "Antichrist" review. Please please please..
posted by MaryAnn (Wed Nov 11 09, 5:20PM)
Yeah, the more I thought about it, the more I thought it was not so great. And then I forgot to move it here. I'll remedy that...
I don't know if I'll review it, though.
On the other hand, an *Antichrist* review is coming soon.

What about a Hurt Locker review?

Or a Moon review? We finally saw it last night, and it'll definitely be on my Hugo ballot. I'm still debating if it might be better than The Road or District 9. It's interesting that the three best acting performances of last year were all in SF movies - Peter Rockwell for Moon, Viggo Mortensen for The Road and Sharlto Copley for District 9. However, I don't think these performances have gotten the credit they deserve.

Ooops, Peter Rockwell. Not sure where that came from.

Looking forward to that Antichrist review, if it ever comes. We usually have similar tastes, but this is one time I think you're just flat-out wrong. If you can spare the time, please read my thoughts on the film at imdb. I would post them here but they're way too spoilerish.

"Inglourious Basterds" was the best and most original film I saw last year aside from Rian Johnson's "The Brothers Bloom." It made my Top 10 of 2009 the minute I saw it.
