MaryAnn - have you seen any of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"? If so, any thoughts?

yes, time to watch (and review, perhaps) "The Thin Man" and "Song of the Thin Man"... and/or do a new monthly feature like "Classic Movie of the Month". then you could review something like "Matter of Life and Death" which is just being released in a lovely new dvd edition.

Oooh, I second that, Bonnie! Classic films, and maybe classic foreign films occasionally? I've been trying to bully MAJ into reviewing "Wings of Desire" for some time now (not really a 'classic' in the traditional sense, but still). It was remade into a dreadful, horrible Hollywood movie called "City of Angels".

Whoops, I meant Bonne-Ann!

i don't mind "bonnie"... yes, "Wings of Desire" was very cool. "City of Meg Ryan and Ugly Dude Nicolas Cage" not so much. i am certain it is not because maryann does't *want* to review these things... it's that she is extremely busy ALL the time, and i know that just keeping up with the current movies takes all the running she can do. if she wants to get to some of those older movies, she's going to have to run much faster than that.

and, hey! i thought you were going to visit NYC this month?

Oh yes, I know MAJ has her hands full and then some, I just like to harangue her with requests because I am a selfish and greedy reader of this site :)

And yep, I was hoping to get up to NYC this month, but assorted bizarre (non-life threatening) illnesses in my kids have made it impossible at the moment. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Feb. Hope y'all will be in town - I'll email when I have anything resembling a plan.

I third that notion. Because one can't live by watching recent movies alone.

Okay, one can, but at this point in history, it's like moving to a town that has all the great restaurants one can possibly imagine--and then eating at White Castle...

I agree; it would be interesting to see you tackle a particular director or era/genre -- one oeuvre at a time. Orson Welles or German silent horror or Billy Wilder or screwball comedies.

Even the lousy movies would make an interesting entry an an ongoing discussion -- compare and contrast with their surroundings, and try to figure out why they don't work so well.

a new monthly feature like "Classic Movie of the Month".

Something like this is on my short list of new features to add to the site.

And just because I don't write about classic movies much doesn't mean I don't watch them. I don't review everything I watch.

have you seen any of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"? If so, any thoughts?

I saw some of the first season and found it mildly amusing, but obviously not enough to keep watching.

"And just because I don't write about classic movies much doesn't mean I don't watch them. I don't review everything I watch."

and i am totally aware and sensitive to that. didn't mean to imply otherwise. is it my fault your writing is so good that people demand more?

I definitely support the idea of MAJ reviewing the classics! Maybe to cut down the list a bit, limit the reviews to classic movies that take place in New York City? That'd keep "The Thin Man" in there (one of my favorite movies, by the way!).

Bully her all you want; I've been trying to get her to watch "Kentucky Fried Movie" for quite some time.

I've been trying to get her to watch "Kentucky Fried Movie" for quite some time.

That's right. And I've been deliberately NOT watching the movie just to spite him. I actually have the DVD right here in front of me, and every day before I go eat bonbons and watch soap operas, I pop it into the DVD player and start it, and then I immediately hit Stop and say out loud to myself, "But that's *exactly* what JoshDM *wants* me to do! I'll show him -- I won't watch it at all today!"

Of course, the correct way to watch Kentucky Fried Movie is to watch Enter The Dragon immediately beforehand.

MAJ, if it was "Kentucky Fried *Chicken*", I'd have to call you a cocktease.

And I totally agree with Mark; of course, that's assuming you can hold out through to the end.

Of course, the correct way to watch Kentucky Fried Movie is to watch Enter The Dragon immediately beforehand.

That's not what I did and I still enjoyed it.

However, I'm enough of a contrarian that I think I understand where MaryAnn is coming from.

And I wasn't aware that Bonnie-Ann and Anne-Kari were trying to bully anyone, much less MaryAnn.

As always, it's interesting to see how some people's minds work.
