trailer break: ‘Fired Up’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

(more below the ad... scroll down...)

Again with the Hollywood and the hating females. Again with the women ruining perfect normal guys with their emotions and their hotness and their making the perfectly normal guys fall in love and do all sorts of things that perfectly normal guys shouldn’t do, like feel things. But here’s something new: girls can’t do anything right unless they’re terrifying, ballbusting bitches, or unless they have guys to show them how to do it. And then there’s the extra special sauce of the idea of women as prizes to be passed from the jerks to the “nice” guys.

It’s as if Hollywood decided that Bring It On was too feminist and those uppity cheerleaders needed to be taken down a notch and reminded precisely where in the hierarchy of humanity girls and women stand: under men.

Oh, but it gets better:

Shawn Colfax and Nick Brady, the stars of the Gerald R. Ford High School football team, are dreading the prospect of another summer at football camp. When Nick hatches a scheme for the two to join their school's cheerleaders at cheer camp instead, they find themselves awash in a sea of gorgeous young women. It all goes great until Shawn falls for Carly, the beautiful head cheerleader who sees right through them.

She sees right through them? Man, she must be an Einstein or sumthin’. (Translation: Girls are very very very dumb, unless they’re just sort of very dumb.)

It’s like Bosom Buddies for mentally challenged hamsters looking for a movie they can just sit back, relax, and switch their tiny damaged brains off for. Mentally challenged hamsters who hate women, that is.

Fired Up! opens in the U.S. on February 20 and in the U.K. on May 22.

Please see the movie before you pass judgement. Not everything is as it appears. You should know this as you are a film critic.

Don't denigrate your profession by reviewing something you have not seen. It's beneath you.

Have a great day.

Having seen the trailers, I fully agree with MAJ's comments. Yes, it is possible that this will be a smart subversive comedy that exposes the disturbing cultural values than most of these films celebrate. However, none of this is in the trailer. I feel like I have lost some IQ just watching the advertisement for the movie.

Also, it makes me embarrassed to be a human being on two levels. First, the stereotypical and insulting way it it portraying women. Second, the pathetic and depressing way it is portraying men. There is no one who should not be ashamed at their involvement with this perpetration and celebration of the wort of our culture.

It's a trailer review, Jerry, not a movie review. Does what it says on the tin.

A trailer is an advertisement of 90+ minutes of movie into 2 minutes. It's supposed to be a condensation of things which would make the target audience want to fork over their hard-earned dough for this. It's

So yes, you can judge a movie by its trailer. I'd go so far as to say that is, in fact, the very purpose of trailer.

Apparently this is the first movie that Maxim magazine is producing or brand synergizing or whatever it is that they call it. I know I'm going out on a limb here, but chances are if Maxim is involved, its two best buddies, juvenille homophobia and metrosexual misogyny can't be far behind.

But who knows? Maybe the gay characters won't be reduced to flaming, limp-wristed stereotypes defined only by their sexual lives, and the intelligent, well-adjusted, responsible, attractive head cheerleader will decide that her first instinct was right and the "charming" loser protagonist isn't really worth her time after all.
