Douglas Adams’s grave in Highgate CemeteryMore pix from my London trip. Author Douglas Adams [Amazon U.S.
It is marked on the maps you can buy when you enter, though, and it’s not hard to find. Surprisingly, however, fan tributes are as simple as the headstone:
Someone did leave a towel, which would have been my first choice for a tribute to leave, too. It’s a bit hard to see because the colors blend in with the foliage, and it’s obviously been there quite a while -- it’s started to rot away:

Jewish tradition warrants leaving a pebble on top of the tombstone or plaque to signify someone has honored the deceased person's memory with a visit.

I have to admit to a teary eye at seeing that green die on the headstone. How perfect! Random and geeky at the same time.
The towel was a nice touch.

The Jewish tradition -- leaving an offering for the dead -- is the same as in many other religions; most Anglo gentiles would leave flowers. The Judaic preference for stones or pebbles stems from an aversion from bringing more death -- a dead plant -- to the grave.
But I really, really like that someone left a D6. Adams wasn't himself a direct influence on gamers (certainly not to the extent that Gygax was), but he was still a formative influence on many of us.
Maybe a stone Scrabble tile would be appropriate, too.
