trailer break: ‘Miss March’ red-band trailer

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

(more below the ad... scroll down...)

So let me get this straight: It’s “funny” if a woman who is offering herself sexually to a man is then punished for behaving in a way that would generally garner at least temporary approval from men by being sucked out of the window of a moving bus, presumably to her death?

I ask this, too: Where are the movies that are similarly outrageous sexual fantasies for heterosexual women? Where are the movies that posit that plain, even unsocialized women are regularly accosted by sexually desirable men seeking to indulge their every whim? (Yes, I know I’ve asked this question before, but it never gets answered.)

The subgenre of movies devoted to pandering to the adolescent sexual fantasies of males would be a lot easier to stomach if there was an equivalent for females. I’d probably hate those movies, too, of course, but it would be a lot easier to ignore movies like Miss March.

You know what really chaps me? You just know that writing-directing team Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore said to each other, “Dude! What if we made a movie totally ripped off from that ‘Centerfold’ song that was popular when we were in diapers?” “Dude, that would be awesome!”

Also: When will Hugh Hefner finally shrivel up under his own soullessness and finally disappear in a puff of wizened misogyny?

Miss March opens in the U.S. on March 13; no U.K. release date has been announced.

Hi, ok, I'm sorry but...WTF is that? Maybe it's because this is a red band trailer but this seems a bit worse than its fellow lowbrow male teenage masturbatory fantasies or recent release. 'Cause seriously...WTF?

I have to admit, as not good as this seems it may be, I am intrigued for one reason: The Whitest Kids U Know. Their comedy, which is all in sketch form, is hilarious. Sometimes silly sure, but I love their stuff. Will they be able to bring it to the big screen? I guess we'll see, but with Craig Robinson involved too I think I will at least be renting this one down the road.
As for the opposite comedy (gender speaking), aren't they typically called "romantic comedies"? I feel like typical chick flicks, which are usually no more valuable than typical male fantasy comedies, are the equivalent. It seems to me that it is generally accepted that the low-ball comedy appeals to men, but not women so you only see these movies for men. While romantic comedies are seen as women's territory and you rarely see any targeted towards men ("he's just not that into you" tried, but I'm not so sure it succeeded).

I realize I'm a one-trick pony lately, but the "woman guts sucked out of bus scene" is in keeping with the postmodern Seth McFarlane school of comedy which states that the following things are always funny (in order of most to least funny):

1) random violence against female prostitute
2) random violence against female celebrity
3) random violence against against any woman
4) random violence against an animal or infant
5) random violence against a male celebrity
6) random violence
7) gay sex
8) pop culture (including religion)

Why write jokes when random violence writes itself? Ten seconds into a scene and already out of ideas? Random violence is here to save the day! Bonus points if it's a woman, because you secretly hate all women anyway! Sheesh, that guy has serious problems.

...and I've seen pop-up books with more impressive animation. Blank facial expressions, almost zero body movement, no understanding of clothing or basic physics, boring, static camera placement. I hear grown men at my workplace quoting Family Guy, grown men. Its success is baffling, completely and utterly baffling.

Alright... it's out of my system. This trailer is pretty awful. African american stereotype? Check. Lipstick lesbian stereotype? Check. Straight to video quality acting? Check. Total lack of empathy for every female character? Check. They keep making these movies though, so someone must pay to watch this stuff, but who?

The movie you seek is "Witches of Eastwick" The movies that do show girls' fantasies usually don't become very popular.
