watch it: “Madoff With America”

Sometimes you bring the crazy, and sometimes the crazy brings you.

I don’t know what that means, except that this is one of the nuttier things I’ve seen online, and I’m scrambling for some way to describe it:

See, writer-producer Edmund Druilhet wants to make a documentary about “scumdog Ponzi-aire” Bernard Madoff, and this is what he thinks is a good way to promote the project: rambling about the “10 million fugitives” in the U.S. (10 million?), Michael Moore on the take (from persumably the CIA or the Illuminati), and Mohammed Atta’s passport. And when he does touch on Madoff, it’s all about the Jews and how evil inexplicable they are. [see here for an explanation of the edit]

It’s kinda delicious, in a bringing-the-crazy kind of way.

The incoherence of this interview, or trailer, or whatever it is, is sort of reassuring in an odd way. That's my first impression.

When people's rage is this unfocused, this rambling, this diffuse in its selection of targets, I'm hoping it is less likely to result in violent revolution.

What the world needs today is nonviolent revolution.

Geez, I don't even know how to react to that. It's so out there, you'd almost think it's some spoof. Are we sure it isn't? Is someone pulling a fast one? Hard to believe it's for real!

I think he reflects the fact that the media is doing a great job at covering up truth. Whats so crazy about truth? Protecting America from theives. Druilhet says nothing about the Jews, he only says things about Madoff the thief, Ponzi skum bag. Polanski the pedaphile. Where did he ever say the word jew? you are a Liar, You are bashing druilhet for what reason? Whats your motive?? Fear?? Druilhet stands alone in the desert, you hide and dont post your name, you are a coward and a disgrace. Go Druilhet dont ever stop, the truth is a great protector. Remember the light shines in the darkness. What ever happen to courage in America?

You know Mike, you sound a little fanatical, but I think I sort of agree with you. The trailer/interview is extremely unfocused and Druilhet comes off as scatterbrained, but except for the part about a 911 conspiracy theory (anyone who understands physics at even a high school level can tell you why those buildings collapsed), nothing he says is that off the wall. He (or whoever edited the interview) is trying to use the strategy of spouting a bunch of generalities that almost everyone agrees with and then tacking on something wacky and "shocking" at the end, but it's not executed very well.

The basic points are:
1) Americans feel that the extremely wealthy are benefiting at their expense
2) Roman Polanski is a convicted child rapist who never served his time
3) He made a movie about Polanski and started an America's Most Wanted-ish show.
4) Madoff took the money of many Jewish people, some of them quite powerful
5) The DoD wastes billions of dollars with little to show for it, and Michael Moore has not addressed this (he also talks to French people).
6) There is a 911 conspiracy and some of the evidence was doctored
7) Michael Moore may be getting paid off not to tell the truth

So while this is a poor marketing tool because he's all over the place and most of what he's saying is self-evident, except for 6 and 7 (which some might say is indirectly true), nothing leads me to believe that he's any nuttier than someone like Keith Olbermann or Bill O'Reillly (or Michael Moore). Unfortunately Mike, he's also not interested in the truth anymore than they are; he's just another talking head telling his audience what he thinks they want to hear. I don't think he deserves ridicule (constructive criticism maybe?) and his fugitive show is probably beneficial, but this trailer/interview doesn't make me want to watch his movie. Then again, I'm not in the target audience and you clearly are, so maybe it's a success after all.
