trailer break: ‘Observe and Report’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

Or Seth Rogan: Mall Cop.

Observe and Report opens in the U.S. on April 10, and in the U.K. on April 24.

No...Travis Bickle: Mall Cop.

Because the first time I saw this trailer I kept getting the feeling that this was supposed to be Taxi Driver redone as a Judd Apatow-style comedy.

Maybe that's a sign I need to get out more...

"Because the first time I saw this trailer I kept getting the feeling that this was supposed to be Taxi Driver redone as a Judd Apatow-style comedy."

According to Seth Rogen on The Daily Show last night, that's exactly what it was. Or, at least, how he saw it: a mall security guard who really thinks he represents goodness and justice.

Things that made me laugh:

The mime shotgun and the lady wincing. Very Reno 911.

Things that made me sneer in derision:,

The way Rogan talks: that arrogant, low, FOR JUSTICE! way of speaking. Man, would that get annoying for 2 hours. Dude, it's funny where appropriate, but not all the damn time.

The flasher at the beginning and the over-the-top reactions from the women about *gasp* A PENIS!! EEK! Shows a middle school mentality. I really hope he's not the only "villian" because then I would have to wax philosophical about how finally, the antagonist of one of these hetero-male-centric comedies is now, in fact, an actual penis (gay!). O, the unfortunate implications.

The rape jokes directed at the blonde (here and in another trailer). She's oh-so-rapeable.

The blonde. Good lord. She wasn't even funny. Here's the perfect woman, guys: super-hot, dumb, easily frightened. She gets shitfaced on a first date, leaving her vulnerable for some fun (the RAEP again! Oh, you guys, HAHAHA.).

Judging from this trailer, one could also call this movie Portrait of the Nice Guy (TM) as a creepy sociopath . I mean, how mny movies have their putative hero and secretly creepy creep admit in the trailer that they are glad some openly creepy creep threatens his crush, so he can act as a protector to her? This could be a deconstruction of that type of character.

Well, let's read MAJs review to find out.
