opening in North America May 1: ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ ‘Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,’ ‘Battle for Terra,’ moreopening wide X-Men Origins: Wolverine: If you thought Wolverine was completely immune to all human frailties -- I mean, we can assume he’s been smoking stogies for a century with no ill effects, right? -- then you may be surprised to see what intriguing weakness he is vulnerable to... Ghosts of Girlfriends Past: You’d have thought that a no-committment sexoholic like Matthew McConaughey in this flick would have run into at least one women like Kim Cattrall’s Sex and the City character. And then all his problems would have been over, and we wouldn’t have had to be bothered with this movie Battle for Terra: Can humans ever be the “alien invaders”? Or is there a “human exceptionalism” that automatically means that when we homo sapiens do it, it can’t be wrong? Watch for ideological battle lines to be drawn over this sweet, earnest animated flick. opening limited The Limits of Control: Jim Jarmusch’s new flick is a, er, minimalist take on the crime thriller... maybe too minimalist.
