trailer break: ‘My Life in Ruins’Take a break from work: watch a trailer... Oh, really? The bearded troll of a bus driver turns out to speak English and is totally gorgeous cleaned up? Who could have predicted this? How about a story in which the bearded troll of a non-English speaking bus driver turns out to be a serial killer who wipes out obnoxious American tourists tramping around the Old Country buying T-shirts and complaining about the food? And Nia Vardalos falls in love with him anyway and helps him commit his murders? And I was ready to sarcastically thank the trailer for spoiling things when it revealed that he could speak English. But by the time I’d seen the trailer all the way through, I was ready to concede that the movie probably is going to be entirely predictable to anyone who’s seen any romantic comedy ever. I understand the appeal of fantasy. I really do. But the same damn fantasy over and over and over again? Doesn’t anyone need any novelty at all? My Life in Ruins opens in the U.S. on June 5; no U.K. release date has been announced. support

Not to defend the film, seems as the only opinion i can form of it isnt even coherent [blahhhhhhh], but i dont think 'poopy' turns into the one she gets with. I think its another greek man, although personally i think 'poopy' would scrub up better..
Not that its predictable that she's going to get with the greek guy at all, oh no the trailer certainly left me hanging.

The same damn misery over and over again is what most people experience in real life. So it's understandable (if not exactly admirable) that what the masses want from escapist-fantasy romantic comedy movies is clockwork predictability in a precisely calibrated emotional experience.
The only permissible surprises in escapist fantasy are the ones that don't matter. For example, will the heroine's enemies merely fade into obscurity and irrelevance after her inevitable triumph, or will they come around to being actively on her side?
(If I'm correct in these musings, I might be able to get rich writing this stuff -- if only I could stay awake long enough to write the happy ending.)

My biggest question relates to why they used what seems to be an awful cover of the Natasha Bedingfield song.
