trailer break: ‘Amelia’Take a break from work: watch a trailer... I mentioned the fact that this trailer had debuted in my “The Week in Women” column on Friday, because it’s gonna be (I hope, pretty please) an important film about a woman who hasn’t gotten anywhere near the treatment in movies that she deserves, and probably would have gotten if she’d been a man. Amelia Earhart deserves to be more than a joke in a Night at the Museum movie, even if that means we get to see Amy Adams being adorably spunky. Plus, Hilary Swank rocks. Plus, the film is directed by Mira Nair, who also rocks. So, you know, this is clearly a milestone for feminism and a harbinger of the better, more equitable world about to dawn before us, and a sign of ponies and cookies and rainbows for all women everywhere. But you know what I secretly thought the first time I saw that trailer, and didn’t dare mention in a column devoted to women in film and Hollywood in which I’m constantly complaining about how there are never enough interesting women onscreen? The first thing I thought was: There’s not enough Christopher Eccleston in this trailer. He’s playing Earhart’s copilot, Fred Noonan... but you’d barely guess that from this trailer. I demand more Eccleston in the next trailer. What can I say? I’m just a girl who likes boys. Amelia opens in the U.S. on October 23, and in the U.K. on November 13. support

I quite agree. While I know this is a film called Amelia, I do think her navigator should feature more in the next trailer. :)

I still can't get over that it was filming in my province and didn't know until it was done. Ewan McGregor in my town and me none the wiser...inconceivable!

Melissa, I didn't have a valid passport until Filming was nearly over. I'm still very much looking forward to seeing this film. I hope they put trailers on the big screen soon.

yes, I think this movie will be much more my cup of tea, than "I Joe"! Also I think Eccleston's New Orleans Mon Amour makes some sort of online debut in July-seem to recall an article on IFC.com. There is just not enough Eccleston on screen anywhere.

You have a screener for "New Orleans, Mon Amour" and haven't watched it yet? AUGH!!! I've been waiting to see it for over a year!
I despair of seeing Christopher in any trailers - someone in marketing is seriously dropping the ball. He's the only reason I'll see GI Joe although I'd see Amelia no matter what.
