trailer break: ‘District 9’ trailer 2Take a break from work: watch a trailer... Nice. After that ominous and enigmatic first trailer, this one gives us more hints at the story, a taste of the action (which doesn’t look quite like the usual stuff while still clearly designed to get the adrenaline flowing), and a sense of even greater threat and gloom than the first trailer! That last is pretty amazing, actually: trailers typically are able to maintain mystery or else they give too much away, but this one is appropriately teasing without -- it seems -- spoiling too much of the story. As trailers go, this is awesome. And this second trailer ups my “I can’t wait to see this” factor for District 9, too. So many moments here in this trailer alone make me want to freeze-frame and check out all the detail -- already I know I’m gonna have to buy the DVD and study the film. District 9 opens in the U.S. on August 14, and the U.K. on September 4. support

I have a feeling this film is gonna let down a lot of people. As we all know, the best films are those that are about people, not CGI or actions scenes. And i'm not getting a sense of character from these trailers at all.

Let down people? With this pedigree? Unlikely! Go watch Blomkamp's short films and come back and tell me he's gonna let us down with his first shot at the big screen. I refuse to lower my expectations: District 9 is gonna see a million faces and rock them all.

Wow, here I am agreeing with Newbs again. What is the world coming to?
Of course any film can end up disappointing, but it's still way too early to give up hope for District 9. With a story this ambitious you can't expect both its challenging ideas and its characters to be introduced fully in just two trailers.
I always prefer a failed attempt at greatness, rather than success at mediocrity. So I plan to see this at the earliest opportunity, unless somebody reveals it has something really awesomely stupid in it, like aliens who suffer burns when exposed to water, or a character equivalent to Jar-Jar Binks.

This is the first time District 9 has come up on my movie RADAR. I'm intrigued.
