trailer break: ‘St. Trinian’s’

This is a complete rip-off of the "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble" sequence as featured in Kentucky Fried Movie.

JoshDM, as people have said on the other post about this movie, St Trinian's is a an old British cultural institution that started life as a series of cartoons by Ronald Searle in 1948. There were then four films made in the 50s and 60s, with a terrible attempt to revive the franchise in 1980.

The 2007 version has had more success, which has led to a sequel. Kentucky Fried Movie and the latest St Trinian's film are most likely to have a common source of inspiration - the original movies.

The original concept was very much of its time. I'm not sure how well it updates. Cartoon sexiness is one thing when contrasted against 1950s Britain, it seems entirely redundant in the 21st Century.

Matthew, you obviously have not watched the aforementioned sequence from the aforementioned movie.

I watched this over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it, much to my surprise. Not a mean-spirited bone in its body, unlike most of Hollyweird's offerings in the genre. The girls, for being such supposed outlaws, are all very likeable, and some are well worthy of rising to the status of girl crush on MaryAnn's bias meter.

Now I'm REALLY looking forward to the sequel.

I loved the old St. Trinians when I was a kid - and avoided this in case it tarnished the memories... That said, when it was announced that David Tennant was playing "Pomphrey" in the sequel I bought it off Amazon and was pleasantly surprised...in fact it has a few laugh out loud moments - and Rupert Everett and Colin Firth are wonderful as old star-crossed lovers! I am soooo looking forward to the new film - especially if as many Doctor Who guest cast-members appear in it as the first, spotting them was great fun!
