watch it: 1970s Pringles “potato chips” ad
Dad is so freakin’ stupid not to know that reconstituted potato flake powder formed into a standardized and trademarked shape is a far superior snack choice for the modern family:
Idiot.

they're not potato chips anymore and haven't been for years. they're crisps - whatever those are.

Potato chips are food. Not exactly the healthiest of foods, but still legitimately in that category, if only just barely.
"Pringles" and similar products are not food. They are better understood in the category some observers have labeled "edible food-like products." Some of their ingredients are derived from things that used to be food once. But the final product is nothing more than a precise laboratory formulation of salt, fats, and sugars. It is designed only to stimulate cravings in the human brain, with no concern at all for nourishing the human body.
Unlike some, I don't support banning these products from the market, but I do think their advertising should be restricted as heavily as that of tobacco products. It would also be a good idea to tax them, and use the revenues to fund treatment programs for eating disorders.
