the oh-no! DVD of the week: ‘Fast Lane’

What? You say this looks an awful lot like Fast & Furious? Shame on you! Hollywood doesn’t cheat! Hollywood doesn’t rip off! My goodness, how suspicious-minded you are!

A high speed chase on the freeways of Los Angeles reveals a turf war between two competing car theft rings. Lieutenant Baynes (Steven Bauer) decides to send Baby Martinez, a young streetwise cop to infiltrate one of the all-girl crews controlled by Mama (Olivia Brown). Quickly she befriends Eva, a former car thief who teaches her the ropes of ripping rides. Soon enough Baby discovers that the real menace on the streets is Mama's rival, Knight (Anthony Ray Parker) whose desire for dominance will send them spiraling into a turbulent adrenaline packed game where he will stop at nothing to own the streets and eliminate the opposition.

I believe this is the show that Fox replaced Firefly with after its mid-season cancellation. So, yeah, there's more reason to hate.

Gawd, is this DVD from those Asylum guys? You know, the ones who did "Transmorphers" and "The Day The Earth Stopped"?

Nah, this is some other abomination. It's a movie, not a show. Fast Lane is indeed the name of the show that replaced Firefly, though... not that it was intentional on their part. The blame for that lies solely with FOX.

"You know, the ones who did "Transmorphers" and "The Day The Earth Stopped"?"

And Transmorphers 2: The Fall of Man. Yes, that's the real title.

I cannot lie, a lesbian remake of The Fast and the Furious appeals to me a little bit.
