question of the day: If it’s not Megan Fox as Catwoman, then who?

Newsflash: Megan Fox is the new Catwoman! Newsflash: No, she isn’t!

The idea of Fox as the new Catwoman might be no more than wishful fanboy thinking, though Hecklerspray offered the most bizarre -- and anti-fanboyish -- reason why it couldn’t possibly be Fox in the role:

Except, well, don’t get your hopes up. Megan Fox hasn’t officially been signed to play Catwoman in Batman 3, and that’s probably for the following reasons:

1 - If Megan Fox starred in Batman 3, then Catwoman would be 12 years younger than Batman. Therefore, the sexual relationship between Batman and Catwoman would be replaced by scenes where Batman takes Catwoman to play on the swings and washes her by spitting into a tissue and then rubbing it all over her face.

The leading lady would be 12 years younger than the leading man, though still of age herself... and this is a problem? Hecklerspray dudes, as far as Hollywood is concerned, this kind of age difference isn’t a bug, it’s a feature. (I’m guessing the Hecklerspray dudes were trying to be funny, but a joke like requires some sort of unexpected deviation from reality).

So: Would Megan Fox make an entertaining Catwoman? (Define “entertaining” however you like.) If not Fox, then who?

Assuming Nolan will work with someone he has done previously (a la Christian Bale, Michael Caine), I reckon Ellen Page stands a chance because she's in his latest, Inception. Yes, I think he'll reimagine Catwoman as a precocious teenage girl, not the love-interest for Bruce Wayne as expected (done in Batman Returns) or the older woman (as the Cher rumour suggested).

Following the same rule, maybe Scarlett Johanson (The Prestige) has a shot, too, although she's probably put herself out of the running by appearing in Iron Man 2.

Otherwise: Rachel McAdams?

Thandie Newton would be great, or Michelle Yeoh.

Hey, Heath Ledger was supposed to be a disaster when he was cast. Nolan can have whoever he wants, he's got credit with me.

How 'bout Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica's Number Six)? Smart, great range, experienced in on-screen combat . . . and of course, looks outstanding in skin-tight outfits.

Of course, the presence of Catwoman in the film at all is far from certain, unless I've missed a report along the way. I'm still hoping for a really twisted, Zodiac-killer-ish Riddler, if you want to talk about wishful thinking . . .

Andrew, before Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker, he had proven himself to be a capable actor. The issue was simply that people couldn't see him playing the Joker.

Megan Fox hasn't shown any ability to act yet so it's a more legitimate concern.

I think that Megan might make a decent Catwoman in a Batman film but not a Chris Nolan Batman.

But on the other hand, if Nolan manages to get a solid performance out of Megan, he could well be our cinematic messiah.

Eva Green would be my first choice - I've wanted to see her play crazy ever since she turned up to the BAFTAs with that inexplicable haircut.

If Nolan does reteam with someone he's worked with before, don't rule out Rebecca Hall (Christian Bale's wife in The Prestige), whose profile seems to be rising all the time and is an excellent actress. Megan Fox... not so much. Really, that's just a referendum on who The Internets want to see in a catsuit, isn't it?

first and only choice: Rachel Weisz

And what, pray tell, is wrong with getting a time machine to go get Julie Newmar in her prime to refill that hip-hugging outfit? (snerk)

Or, he could use Halley Barry. Yeah, I know, and I have almost successfully repressed THAT movie, but still, it would be nice to keep some continuity with these damn comic movies...

I would be just fine with Scarlett doing Catwoman. Of course, I could watch Scarlett eat corn in a empty white room for 2 hours, so what do I know...

I am not convinced Megan has the depth to do anything but fetch coffee in a Nolan Batman movie, but if he pulled it off, he would be unstoppable...

If we're going back in time, could you please pick up Eartha Kitt as well? Meow!

Nolan likes casting actors and if he's not going the Schumacher route with the next one he's not going to cram it with 'it' people to distract everyone.
The acting jury is still out on Fox; everyone will probably say she's great in Jennifer's Body but she's a campy vamp fantasy in that, thus jury still out I'd say.

Following from the Ledger precedent: Rachel Weisz could be good, but I suspect a little too much like Pfeiffer all over again (a good thing, but not a different thing).
For someone a bit more dangerous, how about Ellen Page?

If there is any sexual tension (and I don't know why there needs to be, but anyway...) and the age difference is a problem, just think of it as Hard Candy 2.

Yeah, I'll second that. Julie Newmar was the hottest Catwoman ever.
