trailer break: ‘Halloween II’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

Pressing questions:

• Has anyone ever bothered to explain why it is that Michael just won’t die? How did he get to be some sort of immortal superman? Or does it not even matter? Do we not want even a modicum of rationality to get in the way of as many gruesome murders as possible?

• Shouldn’t this be called Halloween II 2, since it’s a remake of a sequel?

• Poor Malcolm McDowell has to die, doesn’t he, so that it can be proven that Michael Myers is not dead, D-E-A-D?

• When is Rob Zombie just gonna get it over with and remake Carnival of Souls: Now With Extra Ghouls! already?

Halloween II wasn’t screened for critics, and but even if it had been, would I still have given it a pass?

Halloween II opens in the U.S. today; no U.K. release date has been announced.

I'd rather see a full movie version of his Nazi She-Wolf trailer from Grindhouse. Although, there's a report that he's going to remake the Blob next.

Sigh.

I remember the original Halloween and the original Friday the 13th etc. They were something new and different 30 YEARS AGO, people! If someone must die please make it the idiots who keep rehashing this stuff...

You know, at this point, I think Zombie's just making movies so that he can show the world (or, rather, the guys who picked on him in high school) that he has a hot wife. Seriously.

I'll admit bias: I have a deep and abiding love for the original movies, and think that one of the scariest things about them was that Michael was a kid from a nice family who was just born wrong, but when I think of reasons to remake a horror classic, "Now, with added rape!" is not high on my list.

I actually tried to watch the first movie in this series by Rob Zombie and hated it so much I just turned it off halfway through.

And this from a cheapskate who will generally watch any rented DVD all the way through in order to get his money's worth.

Yeah, I know. For all I know, the last half of Zombie's first Halloween could have been the scariest thing since the original Carrie.

But somehow I doubted it.

After all, when you're wading through manure, you can keep searching for a pony for only so long...
