computer problems this morningI think my hard drive might be dying. Might have to spring for a new laptop. Seems I can't catch a break these days... Disqus commentsblog comments powered by Disqus |

Or a new hard drive? If it's really dying, you can replace it for much less than buying an entirely new laptop... you'll have to reinstall windows (or whatever OS you use) but that just takes a few hours, and you've got the discs (hopefully) that came with your current PC.

These days any moderately competent technician can put in a new hard drive for you without any need to reinstall your operating system. They can create an image of your existing drive and copy it onto the new drive, and your system should start right up like nothing ever happened.
Heck, I'm not even a technician and I can do that much myself.

IIRC, you have an older iBook or Powerbook, right? If that's the case, while you can get the hard drive replaced, I'd recommend a new 13" MacBook Pro if you can swing it. I have the aluminum MacBook that preceded it, and it is, hands down, the best 13" laptop on the market, and you'll pay $100 less than I did and get more features.

You're having adventures. It's just one of those pain-in-the-neck times...

Windows! Bite your tongue!
I am a Mac girl all the way. I lust after a MacBook Air...

Well, hey, it was a guess and I went with the 90% chance. :)
I bought a macbook a few years ago; it's a tight little system and it runs Windows XP great, especially after I wiped OSX off completely. :D
All in all, I'm pretty sure I paid about $800 too much, but I liked the magnet lid and the two-finger touchpad. It was a moment of weakness!
