trailer break: ‘Surrogates’Take a break from work: watch a trailer... A supercreepy world of perfect-looking robots? How would it be any different from, say, Beverly Hills? No risk or danger? Where’s the fun in that? So, this is like the idea that “If you die while dreaming, you die in real life” done up all science fiction-y? I’m so not getting any kind of vibe off this: not even a bad one. This trailer makes the film look like the blandest kind of inoffensive claptrap... kind of like it’s a surrogate for itself. I dunno if Surrogates is screening for critics. It’s a Touchstone flick, which means it’s Disney, and Disney didn’t even respond to me when I asked about screenings, which means, I guess, that I’m still on Disney’s shitlist. But no one I’ve asked has seen it yet, so either Disney isn’t showing it to anyone, or they won’t show it to anyone till late this week, just before it opens. (Which I wouldn’t have been able to make anyway, since I’m heading off to England tomorrow. Hey, maybe I’ll see it there...) Surrogates opens in the U.S. and the U.K. on September 25. MIght I just say, I hate it when trailers tell the entire movie. Unless that "Everyone dies" event happens at the 50 minute mark, I've effectively seen the movie.
Also, the idea of Bruce Willis as being the "Real-Life, pain-feeling person." He might have been the first action hero to get the crap kicked out of him, but he kept on going like the freaking terminator no matter how badly mangled he gets. It's like having Keanu Reeves disconnected from the matrix, to discvover his real-life body is Arnold Schwarzenegger.
