As of this writing, 15 movies will open wide in North America in the month of October. Which means that even if you’re an active moviegoer and see a movie each week, you’ve still gotta pick and choose (and it’s even worse if you’re in a city on the arthouse circuit, but let’s not make this too complicated).
After a jump, a list of those 15 movies to whet your appetite, or not, as the case may be:
October 2
• The Invention of Lying (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on the same day)
• Whip It (trailer) (no U.K. release date has been announced)
• Zombieland (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on October 9)
• Capitalism: A Love Story (trailer) (no U.K. release date has been announced)
October 9
• Couples Retreat (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on October 16)
• Night of the Demons (no U.K. release date has been announced)
October 16
• Law Abiding Citizen (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on November 4)
• The Stepfather (opens in the U.K. on December 11)
• Where the Wild Things Are (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on December 11)
• I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (review) (no U.K. release date has been announced)
October 23
• Amelia (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on November 13)
• Astro Boy (opens in the U.K. on January 29, 2010)
• Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant (opens in the U.K. on the same day)
• Saw VI (opens in the U.K. on the same day)
October 28

Easy question!
Since I've already seen Whip It at sneak previews (and even if I hadn't), my answer would be Where the Wild Things Are.
I've been excited about this movie ever since I heard they were making one! And then when the first trailers/posters came out? It was just LOVE in first sight.
Though since I live in NYC though, I am able to check out a few other films in October that I'm excited about like New York I Love You and An Education.

Not on your list, but number one on mine -- A Serious Man

The only one that elicits any excitement from me is, of course, Zombieland.
The rest of the month looks kinda barren.

I'm so disappointed that Spike Jonze didn't bring back Neve Campbell for the sequel.

You know what? The three movies I am most looking forward to are all opening this weekend: The Invention of Lying; Zombieland and Whip it. So hard to decide what to see.

Well, I've already seen the movie I was most looking forward to at a sneak preview: Whip It! and it was enormously entertaining! Good, old-fashioned escapism; what fun we had!

Whip It! Looks like a lot of fun.

"Capitalism: A Love Story" and "Black Dynamite" for me.

Being the horror buff that I am, Zombieland is tops. The word on this is pretty good so far.
I'm still not sure about WTWTA. It just looks...odd. We'll see. Maybe it'll be a family affair.

Whip It! Whip It! Might actually get a sitter for that, I'm so hopeful for it!
Second place, Where the Wild Things Are. That one doesn't quite reach pay-the-sitter level, I don't think. Netflix ahoy.

Where the Wild Things Are tops my list. I'd also like to see Whip It!, Amelia, and Bright Star, which hasn't opened here yet.

We saw a free sneak of Zombieland this evening. FUN stuff, even if you aren't a horror movie fan (exhibit A: me).

Whip It! and Where the Wild Things Are are way out in front for me. Honourable mentions to Amelia, Zombieland and Capitalism: A Love Story.

The only one that jumps out at me is Amelia. If they don't fall into the usual Hollywood trap and sex it up. I'll be reading reviews before I commit myself.
