trailer break: ‘The Stepfather’
Take a break from work: watch a trailer...
I have to say that it’s about time stepfathers started getting the same bad rap as stepmothers. Oh, wait: this is a remake of a 1987 movie? Then how could the idea of the evil stepfather never caught on? Could it be that first movie sucked? Are they remaking it in order to try again to paint stepfathers with the evil brush?
Best America’s Most Wanted reference ever, or what?
“He’s hiding something!” “It doesn’t mean he’s a killer!” Oh yes it does. Don’t these people know they’re in a cheesy horror movie?
Way to spoil the whole movie, trailer guys. Or maybe you figured we’d seen it all so many times before it couldn’t possibly be spoiled?
The Stepfather opens in the U.S. on October 16, and in the U.K. on December 11.

The first Stepfather did not suck (It starred Terry O'Quinn!). It's actually a cult classic among the horror fans... it may have been more to poor marketing (only released in 148 theaters in 1987). Check the reviews on imdb.

How cool would it be if the Stepfather was just a jerk and not a killer, but he helps defend the kids in the end from said killer? Refreshing.

For shame, MaryAnn. For shame. ;-)

Awww this is really too bad. I quite liked the original film. It is genuinely creepy to this day frankly, even if it is a little dated. Terry O'Quinn is great as the lead and it has one of the best openings of all time for a cheezy horror film.

And here I was thinking it was a ripoff of Domestic Disturbance. Of course, I doubt anyone remembers that movie ('round 2002, starred John Travolta and Vince Vaughn, anyone?).

Speaking of the 1987 original, it comes out on DVD this month.
And it will be available on Netflix.
So now you have to see it, MaryAnn. ;-)

Weak PG-13 sauce...weak cover of 'Drive' on the soundtrack..bad news all around. THe original was not bad at all, and O'Quinn is genuinely creept as the lead.
