the further adventures of Nigel (Sunday)

Nigel the Charity Pig wanted to drive this morning as Bonnie and I headed to Oxford:

I hated to have to point out to him that he couldn’t reach both the wheel and the pedals at the same time, but it’s true.

At Balliol College:

Oxford makes Nigel feel all literary, and he insisted on visiting the pub the Eagle and Child, where J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis used to hang out:

So we also popped into the famous bookstore Blackwell:

Nigel loves the venerable Bodleian Library:

The gift shop is nice, too:

I directed Nigel’s attention away from this sign, intended for those interested in purchasing tickets to the guided tour of the Bodleian:

Nigel joined us for a champagne afternoon tea at the ritzy Randolph Hotel:

He can’t wait to get at those cucumber sandwiches!

More of Nigel’s adventures to come...

Aww, Balliol! Didn't see Lord Peter Wimsey, did you?

Continuing to be madly jealous of you and Nigel both. Loving the travelogues.

This is a stitch. I love Nigel making a break for the sweet tray! Go, Nigel! Go!

Of course University College (where both Bill and Chelsea Clinton went as Rhodes Scholars) also claims to be the university's oldest college - but really it was so long ago that a decade here or there hardly matters!

Didn't you visit Christ Church? You should have done. It's by far the most stunning college and they filmed large chunks of the early Harry Potter films there.

Re "The Eagle and Child". The Wikipedia link says "the Bird and Bastard" is a less common name, but that was the standard nickname in my time (class of 74). Certainly I never heard "The Fowl and Foetus", must have been later.

Tolkien, C.S. Lewis & friends called it The Bird and the Baby in their time.
