the further adventures of Nigel (Tuesday)On Tuesday, it was all touring through the Cotswolds and an evening of theater: Nigel the Charity Pig had himself a stroke of luck when he ran into me. He could have been picked up by a grubby six-year-old and ended up thrown out the car window onto the side of the M40 covered with chocolate; a most ignominious end for a nice pig. Or someone could have bought him as a chew toy for the dog, which hardly bears thinking about. Instead, he started his Tuesday with a visit to the weekly market at Moreton-in-Marsh, about a 20-minute drive from Stratford.
This is a traditional market, not a touristy one, full of the ordinary stuff of everyday living: hardware, food, clothes, books, DVDs, and the like. There are a few vendors who appeal to the traveler -- such as the one woman who makes her own chutneys and jams; Bonnie and I bought a lot of yum-yums from her last year, and did so again this year. (Don’t tell Nigel, but her apple chutney is delicious with pork.) Nigel believes there’s naught more quaint than a Cotswold village:
Cream tea in Moreton is a lovely way to take a break:
Food is never far from Nigel’s mind. In the early evening, we pop into Barroom Bar for their Tuesday two-for-one pizza offer:
(That pizza in the background? It’s mozzarella, shredded duck, hoisin sauce, cucumber, and scallion. I know it sounds weird, but it’s unbe-freakin’-lievably delicious. It’s one of the foods I was so looking forward to having again in Stratford. The pizza in the foreground is a more ordinary combination of cheese, tomato sauce, mushrooms, and a bit of ham. It was also fantastic, and not even grading on a scale. It would stand up against almost any pizza in New York City.) Nigel is a bit of a two-fisted drinker:
Short work is made of the pizza, though Nigel did pick the ham off:
(Bonnie is worried that I’m giving Nigel a bad name by posting pictures like this, but I said, Hey, he’s doing it to himself.) Finally, it’s a trip to the RSC to take in their production of The Winter’s Tale:
No photos are allowed in the theater, of course. Nigel and Bonnie and I are off to London for Wednesday... Disqus commentsblog comments powered by Disqus |

Did we not get a Nigel update yesterday because no one commented on this one? Let me remedy that situation so we can hear more of the little shoat's travels. I am so jealous of him I'm inclined to shanghai him and sell him to Honey Baked Hams, but I look forward to hearing more about his adventures!

I am jealous of Nigel. He's having too much fun. With all the adventures he's having he should write a book, or have his own blog. Lord knows what he is up to in London!!!

Maureen--He's an uppity-looking little porker. He may just take over this blog!
