geek-gasm alert! David Tennant and Simon Pegg together onscreen

BloodyDisgusting.com is reporting that David Tennant and Simon Pegg will star in the black comedy Burke and Hare for director John Landis:

BD's David Harley writes in that David Tennant, star of "Dr Who", has been cast alongside Simon Pegg in Burke and Hare, as was announced by director John Landis this weekend at the Spooky Empire convention in Orlando, FL. Based on a true story, Burke and Hare is about two 19th century graverobbers who find a lucrative business providing cadavers for an Edinburgh medical school. The screenplay was penned by Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft.

I’ll be in my bunk.

Anyway, Ashworth and Moorcroft are writers on St. Trinian’s -- which I must review soon, and the sequel of which Tennant just wrapped filming in (he plays the villain) -- and Landis is, of course, Landis. The film’s IMDB page is here; more info on the real Burke and Hare can be found at Wikipedia.

I’d say the Edinburgh setting means that we might get to hear David Tennant’s real accent in this one... except the blokes were Irish immigrants. D’oh!

I find this especially fascinating in that David played Daft Jamie in a Big Finish audio (Medicinal Purposes) in which the Doctor (Colin Baker) ran afoul of Burke & Hare and the doctor who bought their illicit cadavers, Dr. Knox, who was played by Leslie Phillips (probably best known in the US as the voice of the Sorting Hat in the Harry Potter movies, but an acting icon in the UK).

The fact that you quoted Firefly in a blog post about David Tennant and Simon Pegg = ultimate geek awesome

This should be an interesting movie indeed. Medicinal Purposes was the first Colin Baker audio I got and rather enjoyed it as well. First circle indeed. First DT does Big Finish Doctor Who audios and now this movie which goes back to that time (of sorts).

There's video on youtube of Landis talking about the project and saying specifically that DT is in it (up til seeing this today I'd let it rest as rumour, and I suppose it could still fall through - but I wonder if this was 'the first American audition' he had when he was in LA for NTA summer tour).

One thing though, since Burke and Hare were actually Irish, it's not unlikely that we won't be hearing a Scots accent from DT (more's the pity :( )

F*CK YEAH! i was awaiting footage as well and this is totally EPIC for geekdom!

I am SOOO there!

TeninchPeggasm!!! *THUD*

i'm willing to bet this IS the 'first hollywood audition' with a 'big hollywood director' for a 'big hollywood movie'!

Awww, bless him! David's so adorkable! XD

What am I missing here? How is this a "big hollywood movie" when they say it will be filmed in Ealing Studios in London and with, obviously, UK stars?

the only thing that could be better is if both of them were in my bunk with me.

*sigh*

Tennant apparently loves Firely too

but yeah super exciting news but who's the straight man?

"I'll be in my bunk."

That's the funniest compliment you've ever written. Of course, it helps that I'm a Firefly fan, too.

Ooooh, interesting, I must say.

I at least some of it is also shot in Edinburgh. Burke and Hare always give me the creeps. You can see the influence of the 'Resurrection men' in the graveyards up there - many of the graves are covered with bars to stop them being dug up.
