the further adventures of Nigel (Wednesday)

[previous]

It was a trip to London for Nigel the Charity Pig on Wednesday, mostly for two shows -- a matinee and an evening -- with a quick bit of touring and some visiting with friends along the way.

At the Stratford-upon-Avon train station, early in the AM:

(more below the ad... scroll down...)

Settling in for the long ride, and eager to help with the work that will pass the time...

...until the view out the window becomes too distracting:

Arriving at Marylebone station in London:

On the way to the matinee, there was just time for stops at a few famous sites, including Baker Street:

Carnaby Street:

Oxford Circus:

Nelson’s Column:

And of course, the Apple store:

The matinee was Speaking in Tongues, which drew me because John Simm of Life on Mars was starring:

(I’ll share my reactions to the play soon.)

Afterward, it was off to meet up with Katy -- of Katyboo fame -- and her friend Andrea:

And more sightseeing, such as the Golden Jubilee Bridge:

With Andrea admiring the view from the Golden Jubilee Bridge:

Please please please can we go on?

(We didn’t go on.)

And then it was time for the evening show, La Cage aux Folles starring John Barrowman of Doctor Who and Torchwood:

Nigel can’t wait for the show to start!

(I’ll share my reactions to La Cage soon, too.)

Then came the long walk to Victoria Coach Station to catch the last bus back to Stratford (the last train had long since left), with a few more glimpses of famous places along the way, including Big Ben:

And Westminster Abbey:

Napping on the bus on the long midnight ride back to Stratford:

Nigel’s adventures continue...

Love Nigel's adventures. Can't wait to hear about Speaking in Tongues and La Cage a Folle

I'm going to see La Cage with a friend in a month - will be interested to hear what you (and Nigel) thought of it.

how come it takes 2 hours 45 to get to London from Birmingham and 2 hours 15 minutes from Stratford - that's just crazy

did you go for autographs afterwards? I hear both Johns come out to sign Lucy Cohu has got kids and I hear she's always in a hurry

can't wait for you review of Speakin - am going in a month! Tennant went a couple of nights ago so you just missed him!

Saw La Cage with Graham Norton a couple of months ago and really liked but I bet Barrowman killed I am what I am

i meant to ask you last time you went to London you found a Tardis can you remember where it is?

I'd say it's worth making time to go on the Eye at least once - preferably on a clear day. (It's not too crowded on weekdays outside tourist season.)

Glad to see you had the good taste to use the Jubilee bridges rather than the "Millennium" bridge (still known to almost all Londoners as the wobbly bridge, though the architect was forced to shut up and do what the engineers had told him would be necessary and it doesn't wobble much any more).

MaryAnn and i went on the London Eye in February when we were on an London-only holiday. it was awesome! (we did the ride at sunset.) in February, we also crossed the Millennium Bridge on our way to the Tate Modern. (perhaps we should make it a goal to cross every bridge in London!)

also, we didn't go for autographs. not our style.
