when in Stratford-upon-Avon, U.K., I stay at

question of the day: What movie are you most looking forward to in November?

As of this writing, 12 movies will open wide in North America in the month of November. Which means that even if you’re an active moviegoer and see a movie each week, you’ve still gotta pick and choose (and it’s even worse if you’re in a city on the arthouse circuit, but let’s not make this too complicated).

After a jump, a list of those 12 movies to whet your appetite, or not, as the case may be:

(more below the ad... scroll down...)

November 6
The Box (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on December 4)
A Christmas Carol (opens in the U.K. on the same day)
The Fourth Kind (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on the same day)
The Men Who Stare at Goats (opens in the U.K. on the same day)

November 13
2012 (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on the same day)
Pirate Radio (aka The Boat That Rocked) (trailer) (already available on DVD in the U.K.)

November 20
The Blind Side (trailer) (no U.K. release date has been announced)
Planet 51 (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on December 4)
The Twilight Saga: New Moon (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on the same day)

November 25
Ninja Assassin (opens in the U.K. on November 27)
Old Dogs (opens in the U.K. on March 5, 2010)
The Road (trailer) (opens in the U.K. on January 8, 2010)

Which of these movies are you most looking forward to in November?

If I had to choose one for each week, it would be

Men Who Stare At Goats
The Boat That Rocked
Planet 51
The Road

Thank God I live in NYC, because I want to see Precious and The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

I'll see A CHRISTMAS CAROL because I'm a Zemeckis completist...

Your list is missing FANTASTIC MR. FOX, I'll see that too because I dig Wes Anderson...

Otherwise, I'll try to catch up to A SERIOUS MAN, and maybe PRECIOUS and AN EDUCATION.

Fantastic Mr. Fox... though it's limited release so there's no telling if it'll be in town this month. But with Wes Anderson, Roald Dahl and stop motion there's no way it could be more tailored to my tastes.

The two I'm excited about probably won't come out in my city: Fantastic Mr. Fox, and the Men who Stare at Goats.

Area 51 looks like it could be fun, and 2012, for some old fashioned modern-day disaster porn nonsense. The Road might be good, but I'd have to be in the right mood for that one, I think.

I want to see the Men Who Stare at Goats, and the trailer for Precious looked brilliant. I will be avoiding New Moon like the absolute plague. Gah. I won't be seeing Fantastic Mr Fox - I didn't like the look of the trailers (it's a story I remember very strongly from my childhood, and I don't think I'd like it re-set in America and also I think some of the animals were wrong?) - I think I'll be keeping my own mental images on this one.

The Fourth Kind sounds like my kind of movie.

The Road. Sooooo looking forward to that one. How can it possibly live up to the book, though?

Well, that's easy:

The Road (the most, despite the wretched marketing of this movie)

Pirate Radio (like The Road, its release has also been delayed quite a bit)

The Men Who Stare at Goats (it looks like it ought to be a Coen brothers movie!)

I don't plan to see any other wide releases - 2012 screams BIG VIDEO GAME as does the latest version of A Christmas Carol.

I agree with Laurie on The Men Who Stare at Goats. From the first trailer I thought it looked like a Coen movie. I even thought it WAS for awhile.
Christmas Carol looks AWFUL.
Planet 51 looks awful.
The trailer for FMF didn't work for me. Plus I can't stand when the voices are touted more than the story itself.
The wife may want to go see New Moon, so I may have to see that.
2012 looks like disaster cheese, and yet I find myself wanting to witness said disaster.
Still,, Goats is #1.

Ah, but which movie are you most looking forward to MaryAnn reviewing? (evil laugh)

Well, I won't be seeing The Pyramid Scheme I mean The Box. Won't be seeing The Day After Logic Committed Sepuku I mean 2012. Don't want to see New Moon but someone important to me is a sucker for vampire flicks even though we agreed the first one wasn't very good but the cause became hopeless when the cute boy in the trailer turned into a doggy, so...

As far as movies I want to see, Goats looks good. And I've only seen one trailer briefly that didn't necessarily wow me, but I'm gunning for a movie with the purity of spirit to call itself Ninja Assassin.

I almost never make it out to theaters anymore (combination of full-time job, two-year-old child, and really lousy local theaters), so I'm mostly waiting for Star Trek on DVD.

Now, December! December might get me to the theater. For Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law? I will get a babysitter.

Definitely want some Goats action and will most likely go see it. Also I am a sucker for planet scale devastation, but will probably wait for the DVD on 2012. Fourth kind looks interesting but I am worried it will disappoint. It'll show up on HBO eventually.

You won't get me anywhere near any of that Twilight nonsense. Trueblood on HBO is vastly superior and provides all the vampire action a person really needs.

Christmas Carol, but only if my theater gets it in 3d

The Road. That's it.

Gotta admit, the trailer for Ninja Assassin hooked me. Plus, you gotta pull for a kung-fu star simply named "Rain".
What could be better for Thanksgiving digestion than some martial arts mayhem?
