I can’t wait to see what Peter Jackson has done with this book, which is, well, lovely and perfect and just a delicate wonder that could so easily be smashed (like the ship in a bottle that figures so powerfully as a metaphor in the story). This trailer doesn’t make me despair, though I have to say that I just don’t see Mark Wahlberg as the dad. I think he’s a very good actor and this role -- the regular working-class guy -- is the kind of thing he does best, but still...
We’ll see.
The Lovely Bones opens in the U.S. in limited release on December 11 and wide on January 15, 2010; it open in the U.K. on January 29, 2010.

the trailer makes it look like a thriller, and a rather cheesy one at that-- the book is more about grief, pain, unrequited love and lust...this looks like a toothless Dean Koontz adpatation or something. I've been fooled by trailers before, but...
