trailer break: ‘Did You Hear About the Morgans?’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

(more below the ad... scroll down...)

More counterprogramming for those exhausted by all the quality awards contenders opening this time of year: the new film from Marc Lawrence, also responsible for Two Weeks Notice and Miss Congeniality. Hoorah!

And then I actually watched the trailer.

Dear God, is there nothing Hollywood won’t do to torture us?

Did You Hear About the Morgans? opens in the U.S. on December 11, and in the U.K. on January 1, 2010.

I'm so sick of:

1. Married people complaining and joking about how much married life sucks. Get a fucking divorce or kill each other. Just don't tell me about it. Why people need to be in toxic relationships just for companionship and tax benefits is beyond me.

2. Movies about how how couples have to go on a retreat or go into witness protection or go on a date where they are mistaken for criminals (upcoming "Date Night") -- all just to discover Aw look, they really do love each other.

good...god...she's channeling all the obnoxiousness of Delia Deetze with none of the humor. And he's more insufferable than usual. Saying to your grown wife to go in the waiting room and "play with a toy" makes you sound like an asshole, regardless of how charming your accent is.
How much you wanna bet those two country sheriffs are happily married and they're gonna teach our uptight city couple how to love, country-style?
How come every "comedy" has to have an animal attacking a main character? NOT FUNNY.

Apparently, Mr. Grant's last truly funny movie was Music and Lyrics--which wasn't that great a movie apart from the music video at the very beginning but was more watchable than this trailer seems to be.

As for Ms. Parker, I was never a big fan of hers when she was younger and now that she is obviously--er, not so young (chivalry forbids me from being more specific)--her appeal is still somewhat lost on me.

Of course, they could have cast Cary Grant and Myrna Loy in this movie back in the 1940s and it probably still wouldn't be all that watchable. Then again Grant and Loy probably wouldn't have settled for what looks like such a miserable script.

And gag! A Sarah Palin joke? So much for Hollywood's cutting-edge humor...

Ugh.

On the plus side, I believe the two main stars are roughly the same age. The only thing that could have made this worse would be the more traditional casting of Hugh Grant and Megan Fox.
