retro trailer: ‘A Christmas Story’

Take a look back at an old trailer...

I can’t remember ever wanting anything for Christmas as a kid anything as much as Ralphie wants that Red Rider BB gun. But I love seeing him get it, year after year.

Looks like TBS will be engaging in its new annual tradition of running the film for 24 straight hours, starting on Christmas Eve at 8pm Eastern. Ho. Ho. Ho.

A Christmas Story is available on DVD in Region 1; it’s apparently out of print in Region 2, but used copies are available. My review of the film is here.

Cos I'm British, it wasn't instantly familiar. Perhaps that explains why I thought a trailer with the words "HIS END UP" followed by an upward pointing arrow signalled the start of an AWFJ irony-fest.

But it is a warm and idyllic Christmas story that I recognise from my childhood experience. Although I hope that ridiculing the Chinese in the closing moments counts as "good racism" at Christmas?
