trailer break: ‘Avatar’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

I realized I hadn’t posted a trailer since the teaser ages ago. If you’re avoiding my review till you’ve seen the movie, this offers a good taste of what you’re in for without spoiling anything. In fact, it’s probably impossible to spoil this movie, because it really is all about the immersive experience, and nothing except sitting in a movie theater with your 3D glasses on is going to offer that.

There’s been a lot of debate about whether Avatar is “the future of movies.” If other filmmakers can make more movies that feel like this, an experience that cannot be replicated by watching those movies on a computer screen or even on a nice big wide flatscreen TV, then this kind of thing could well be the future of movies.

The downside is, of course, that small stories will be relegated even more to TV, or straight to DVD. That would be too bad.

Avatar opens around the planet on December 18.
