trailer break: ‘The Wolfman’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

I’d been hearing about Benicio Del Toro in a Wolfman reboot for a while, but it never occurred to me that it wouldn’t be set in the present day. I’m not sure why, I just assumed it would be modern. I guess they’re adhering more closely to the 1941 film than we’ve come to expect from remakes.

The film’s release date has been pushed back a few times, but I’m somewhat heartened by the fact that the script is by Andrew Kevin Walker, who wrote Sleepy Hollow, and David Self, who adapted Road to Perdition. A Wolfman movie that feels like a mashup of those two couldn’t be bad. And I really liked director Joe Johnston’s last film, Hidalgo.

*fingers crossed*

The Wolfman opens in the U.S. and the U.K. on February 12, 2010.

The Wolfman Movie comes equipped with the theatrical trailer and lots of nifty extra material, including the truth behind lycanthropy and a link to the Universal Monster's Legacy website. Hopefully this site and the upcoming film will help introduce new fans to the classic films. Sure they're old, but try watching a few of them on a rainy Saturday afternoon for some spectacular atmosphere.

Is that a visual reference to Terence Fisher's The Curse of the Werewolf I'm spying at stills 26-28? Or is my imagination playing tricks on me?
