question of the day: What will the 10 Best Picture nominees be?

I think 'District 9' might get in instead of 'The Blind Side' or 'A Serious Man'.

Considering the Academy's history of occasionally nominating at least one film that turned out mediocre-to-bad despite strong expectations, I expect Nine to be one of the ten. I'm also more and more uncertain that Up and Avatar will get a Best Picture nod, perhaps irrationally so. The Academy let me down by not naming Wall•E last year's Best Picture, so I can't help but be pessimistic.

I do think The Blind Side could end up like Monster, earning only one nomination, for Best Actress, yet managing to win the one.

I do think Kathryn Bigelow will win for Best Director, because it seems generally agreed upon that The Hurt Locker works essentially because of her.

I pray that District 9 will bump off The Blind Side or any film really.

the problem with predicting the Oscars is trying to name what you think they will choose and not what is the best, because on the past almost never matched

I think Star Trek and Watchmen are among the best movies of this year but they will be ignored, they will throw a bone to the fanboys with District 9 but that's it

I think Star Trek will get in. If there's one thing the folks of the Academy respect, it's making money, plus J. J. Adams is popular and seen as a homie. I don't see District 9 making it in, because it's too depressing for them and it's not by anyone they know personally.

And, of course, who cares? This is the Oscars folks. This time next year, no one but their agents will remember.

With twice as many nominations possible, I can see the Academy throwing a bone to musicals, no matter how mediocre (Nine), to SF (Star Trek, but certainly not the too-out-there Watchmen), and to comedies, expecting all of those to be washed out when it comes time to vote for Serious, Ponderous Cinema.

I think it's sad that the blatant remake that is "Avatar" will probably be nominated for Best Picture, but that's never stopped the Academy before. Maybe all the best technical categories would be acceptable.

I think it would be justice for "Me and Orson Welles" to win, but that's probably my silly sense of humor taking over...

I'd love "Star Trek" and "Watchmen" to be included, but I'm also a realist and don't actually expect them. "Inglorious Basterds" would be great.
