Neil Gaiman is awesome, Regis Philbin is an idiot, Jay Leno and the end of America, and more: leftover links
Every week my browser gets cluttered up with tabs for stuff that I stumble across and figure I might be able to use as a Question of the Day or a WTF Thought for the Day or grist for some other post. And inevitably, I end the week with most of that material unused. But there’s no reason to let this stuff go to waste: I can still share it with you, for your amusement, and start the new week with a clean slate.
Herewith this week’s leftover links, in no particular order:

On his blog, Neil Gaiman has said that he doesn't remember saying the "nobody's bitch" thing about himself, although he's used the phrase to defend George R.R. Martin from fans who feel entitled to the next "Song of Ice and Fire" book right now.
Warning: the first link also leads to a heartbreaking account about one of his cats. Brace yourselves. And send him some nice emails, if you're fans.

Also, the bit about Gaiman's many female readers reminded me of this.

That New Yorker article on Gaiman made me so angry. Here you have an article about one of the few authors I've ever come across who actually seems to get women, and yet a huge chunk of it is devoted entirely to passive-aggressively belittling his female fans. What's wrong with women liking fantasy? What's wrong if some of them have a flair for the dramatic? She certainly doesn't seem to have a problem with his male fans.
Gah.

Whoops--the George R.R. Martin link didn't seem to work. Here it is.

Gads! How hot must all the upcoming television series be if there's no mention made at all of "True Blood"'s sexual antics?

Gaiman is a hypocrite who funds Scientology.
Neil Gaiman's 2009 contributions to the CULT of Scientology are listed in the cult's Cornerstone Newsletter (circa November 2009)
$142 million plus given to Super Power Scam - Ex Scientologist Message Board

Under
CORNERSTONE CLUB MEMBERS [1315] [$35,000.00]
You'll find:
Mary & Neil Gaiman
And as the ex Scientologists state: "Also, this list does not include donations made by people who have since left the Church and been declared SP’s or “ethics bait”. The Church deletes those people’s names from the lists."
This probably reflects the $30,000.00 Neil Gaiman gave to the cult, and an additional $5000.00 to bring him up to Cornerstone Club member. Neil Gaiman is a Scientologist in good standing.
