Warren Beatty vs Pauline Kael, MacGruber movie in trouble, more: leftover links

Every week my browser gets cluttered up with tabs for stuff that I stumble across and figure I might be able to use as a Question of the Day or a WTF Thought for the Day or grist for some other post. And inevitably, I end the week with most of that material unused. But there’s no reason to let this stuff go to waste: I can still share it with you, for your amusement, and start the new week with a clean slate.

Herewith this week’s leftover links, in no particular order:

I'm somewhat surprised to not see a mention of Neil Gaiman writing an episode of Doctor Who.

1. Re: the Avatar link: What exactly is so smart about preaching to the choir? About only aiming a political movie at the small minority of people who are already inclined to agree with you? What is so bad about reaching out to an average movie goer who is not already convinced? Anyone's who ever read Mark Twain knows that aiming a story at the common man doesn't automatically means "writing stupidly for the stupid." Yet I suppose that the intellectually insecure would tend to see it that way.

2. Re: The Golden Girls link. So the good Christians behind that link actually think Miami was better off when it was associated primarily with the drug dealers of Scarface and Miami Vice? And that most homosexuals today were inspired by The Golden Girls?

I suppose I could point out how one of the biggest fans of The Golden Girls that I knew back in the 1980s turned out to be a shameless homophobe but no doubt they'd dismiss such evidence as anecdotal...

Tonio, the Golden Girls thing is a spoof.

Apparently I failed to digest the entire Internet last week... :->

Really? It's so hard to tell nowadays...

well they had Quentin Tarantino in an episode so they're obviously degenerate scum

That entire christwire.org site is one giant Poe. I had to read through 3 articles and their comments to convince myself they were having me on.
