because Cruise Mountain Burrito has already been done
People, for no discernible reason, are putting Photoshop to purposes for which It Was Not Intended to create dubious works of surrealistic pop-culture art featuring, in the same composition, 1) Tom Selleck, 2) a waterfall, and 3) a sandwich. This is occurring at a Web site known as Selleck Waterfall Sandwich. Because “Penguin Knob Warbler” is a registered trademark of Confuse-a-Geek Worldwide, Ltd. I just don’t know what the world is coming to these days. Won’t someone think of the children? How do we explain this to them? Is it caused by a virus? Or is it perhaps bacterial? What can we do to stop it? I... just... erm... huh:

1) You must be bored trapped inside.
2) Site needs more "Valentine's Day" (the movie) coverage. :D

What the hell? I'm actually sorry to say that I laughed while perusing the images on that site. It is so stupid, that it's funny. I think.

They do it for the Lulz.
...I love Photoshop.
A thought: I once heard it said that if it wasn't for the invention of the electric guitar, the blues would have died out as an active genre decades ago. I wonder if in years to come the same will be said about the internet and absurdism.
(Though to be honest, Monty Python probably already ensured it's survival for generations to come.)

Absurdity is inherently funny. Fynny breeds imitation, imitation breeds popularity, popularity of the absurd compounds the absurdity. If it's popular enough, it hits the mainstream of culture, breeding new takes.
That's probably the fundamental growth mechanism of the Meme. No use in fighting it, give in to the madness. Have a Ham on Rye with a side of moustache, and a cool refleshing glass or waterfall.

This site actually combines many of the most successful for a wildly successful Internet meme:
(1) Messing around with Photoshop
(2) Complete nonsense
(3) A faded celebrity
If this doesn't collapse under its own weight in a few months, there will eventually be books published, t-shirts made (oops, too late), and then it will die of excessive popularity once some "mainstream" news outlet gets hold of it and the 'Net's hipsters have moved on to something else . . . Perhaps people who grew up with memes will remember it fondly in 20 years, along with Chuck Norris Facts and "All Your Base Are Belong To Us."
