the oh-no! DVD of the week: ‘Transmorphers: Fall of Man’
Any resemblance to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is entirely intentional: In this present day prequel, the robot invaders attack the Earth, forcing a small band of humans to seek refuge below the surface of the planet. Prequel? Prequel to what? Why, just-plain Transmorphers, from 2007, which it was devoutly hoped you would confuse with Transformers, coincidentally released that same year: A race of alien robots has conquered the Earth and forced humanity underground. After three hundred years of domination, a small group of humans develop a plan to defeat the mechanical invaders in the ultimate battle between man and machine. These films are, of course, coming to us through the auspices of The Asylum, which also recently gave us the cheapie Sherlock Holmes knockoff that comes complete with dinosaurs and steampunk power armor. support

Hmmmmm ........
a) Why would any movie want you to think it is "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen"? Last thing I heard, not even "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" wants you to think it is "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen".
b) Michael Bay is one of the few directors where I wouldn't find it surprising if a shameless shameless rip-off were superior to the original lack of effort.

I (somewhat shamefully) admit to being intrigued by these crazy-ass movies. Can they possibly be as terrible as their names and concepts would imply? And yet, I certainly don't want to give money to these scumbags. Maybe I should try to download one...

I've seem two Asylum films. Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus had all the best stuff in the trailer and to my mind really isn't worth seeking out beyond that (though the asian man ends up with the caucasian woman, and you won't see that very often in a mainstream movie).
The Terminators was... actually not bad at all, certainly better than Terminator Salvation. It even had a coherent story, and the guy playing (all) the killer robots has the moves and expression down pat.
The Asylum is currently making "Titanic 2". Really.

@MaSch: Yeah, I was thinking precisely the same thing as your point (b). If this knockoff has at least three exchanges of coherent dialogue, and if they hold the camera still for any period more than four seconds, then I think it would already be a winner.

Brian, don't be silly. If you hold the camera still for as long as FIVE seconds, the audience will get bored and leave the theater! It's just how it works!
(Now somebody find me some pliers to extract my tongue from my cheek...)
