trailer break: ‘Date Night’Take a break from work: watch a trailer... Oh. My. God. It’s like someone made a CGI action comedy about, I dunno, squirrels who think they’re secret agents, and then digitally removed the squirrels and replaced them with live actors. It’s like the opposite of motion capture to create a cartoon. I would like to think that Tina Fey and Steve Carell together might be kinda funny -- even though they’ve both made some shitty movies (Baby Mama, Evan Almighty) -- but the fact that Shawn Levy directed this makes that impossible. His movies range from the not very good (Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian) to the horrific (The Pink Panther, Just Married). Talent and the ability to make a reasonably not terrible movie are clearly optional in Hollywood. Date Night opens in the U.S. and Canada on April 9, and in the U.K. on April 21. I understand your reservations, but I have high hopes for the film. Like you said, pairing Carell and Fey seems to be such a no-brainer that it's shocking it's the first time to happen in film. Plus James Franco and Mark Walhberg also make me a bit more excited about the film.

In related news, this trailer came with an ad from mormon.org inviting me to chat about faith. Seems like they're missing their audience...
