question of the day: What imaginary item that you’ve seen in a movie or on TV do you wish you could buy?

Yesterday we talked about actual items -- cars, clothes, makeup, whatever -- that we’re inspired to lust after when we see them in movies or on TV. Today, let’s go fantasy shopping:

What imaginary item that you’ve seen in a movie or on TV do you wish you could buy?

It’s probably a given that we all want a lightsaber and/or a sonic screwdriver, but what else?

Well, I wouldn't like to go through the same procedure Wolverine went through to get it, but I would like an adamantium skeleton. And claws, of course.

I want a Zig-E controller from Quantum Leap that squeals when I hit it on the side.

The foldable, pocketable paper computers from Caprica. It was the first imaginary tech gadget in a LONG time that made me think I was looking at the future.

I always wanted, and still do, a hover board from Back to the Future Part II.

A TARDIS! I bet you could pick up an old Type40 at a steal. ;)

A Sonic Screwdriver. I'm slightly ashamed to admit I have the toy and have actually walked around with it in my inside jacket pocket. I'm over 30 by the way.

Uh, the imaginary things I've wanted have so far appeared only in books and I don't think there are films of them: The carpet in The Phoenix & the Carpet and Binky from Terry Pratchett. Were these ever made into movies or tv shows? Could they count? I did want Esmeralda Weatherwax as my midwife when my son was born, but that probably wouldn't count.

Easy, a Jetpack! One from 'Minority Report' preferably. If not, the one from 'Thunderball' will do.

Laser screwdriver. Who'd have sonic? ;)

@LaSargenta: Hogfather was made into a two-part TV series, which is supposed to have been pretty good and very faithful to the book. Binky MUST have been in it. And personally, I'd rather have Gytha Ogg around for a birth. :)

I think I'd want a Tricorder. And a speeder bike. And an AT-ST for getting to work in bad weather.

The Green Destiny of course. Trinity's outfits (well all the inside-the-Matrix stuff, not the drab Zion stuff) and the nerve to pull it off...

A Perception Filter and a Square Gun.

Maybe a house like Jack Carter's "S.A.R.A.H."

Lasargenta and Orangutan... the Colour of Magic has also been filmed, it was broadcast last year. Sky seem to be in the mood to film one every year, I'm pretty impressed with what they've managed to do.

As for the actual point of the thread though.. I would like the Hogfather to bring me an actual X-wing, HAL 9000 (without the hidden programming please), and one of those giant mech things from Robot Jox so I can get to work in bad weather and kick my way through the AT-AT traffic jam.

Love Potion 99.

A starship. But where would I get the crew?

@dave: "A Sonic Screwdriver. I'm slightly ashamed to admit I have the toy and have actually walked around with it in my inside jacket pocket. I'm over 30 by the way."

don't we all? i don't understand... what's your point?

;-)

I'd buy the red pill.

@Paul... where would you get the crew? :D Here's your chief engineer right here!

Then repeat after me, "Oh captain, my captain."

A Nimbus 2000!

Failing that, Luke's hover car from the first Star Wars.

I want a holo-deck.
