trailer break: ‘Agora’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

Destroy books, kill in the name of a deity, and ignore the wisdom and advice of intelligent people based on what their genitalia looks like.

It’s amazing we’ve managed to survive as long as we have. What would Hypatia of Alexandria think of us today?

Perhaps needless to say, I can’t wait to see this...

Agora opens today in the U.K., and in the U.S. and Canada on May 28.

I was wondering when it'd show here! This is good news; I'm looking forward to it too.

But will the movie square with Carl Sagan's version of events, I wonder? (Don't have a good enough connection to see the trailer right now...)

Interesting that this trailer almost completely obscures the fact that Hypatia was a mathematician and scientist. I can just see the producers saying, "Look, it's bad enough that Christians are the bad guys in this movie, but if you show a girl doing math, you'll never sell any tickets in Peoria!"

I wrote two papers on her in college and she's absolutely fascinating though tragically, mostly lost to history. Very much looking forward to seeing this. So glad it got a US release date.
