Huh. I didn’t know Quentin Tarantino had gone to Bollywood. Where’ Uma Thurman?
Seriously, though: This film is the big push to get mainstream North American audiences into Bollywood movies. The film is being released on the same day in India as it is around the world, including North America and the U.K. The tailer does make it look at least as Hollywood as it does Bollywood -- kissing? in an Indian film? I guess it’s okay because the girl isn’t Indian? -- so perhaps it’ll have a shot at crossing over...
Kites opens in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. on May 21.

Hrithik Roshan is a huge Bollywood star. I've seen a couple of his movies, which look awfully hokey to my Western eyes, but are monster hits in India, like Dhoom 2. If they can curb a substantial amount of the standard-issue Bollywood cheese -- keep the seven-minute dance breaks to a minimum, for starters -- this may have a really solid chance of crossing over. I mean, look at the guy. Even I have to admit, he's pretty dreamy.

I love Bollywood movies so a quick correction, if you don't mind - the perception that people don't kiss in Bollywood movies has not been true for close to a decade. Many a Bollywood movie now features a kiss between the leading couple (even if usually of the chaste and non-French variety). In fact, out of all big-name Bollywood male stars, I can think of only two who haven't kissed anyone on screen and the amount of leading ladies who have not is probably equally small.
