trailer break: ‘Grown Ups’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

Oh, I get it: the title is meant to be ironic. I know that’s a tough concept for some people, but it means that even though the movie is called Grown Ups, that’s kind of a joke because the characters actually aren’t grown up at all. And the movie itself is not meant for grownups either, but instead for manchildren who believe that it’s “grody” that women over the age of 40 might be considered sexually attractive; that violent old ladies are hilarious; that breastfeeding is weird and icky, or at least something best limited to a few narrow acceptable constraints; and that a big fat guy slamming into a tree is just the funniest thing ever... unless it’s the notion of a bunch of ostensibly adult men revealing themselves to be disgusting slobs by peeing in a public swimming pool.

The tagline of the film? It’s the charming “Boys will be boys... some longer than others.” See, men can’t help being juvenile morons: it’s just the way they’re made.

Grown Ups opens in the U.S. and Canada on June 25, and in the U.K. on August 6.

I'll bet you're looking forward to this one, MAJ. ;-)

Grown Ups, AKA....A Movie I'd Never Watch.

Ho-hum. Yet another movie almost every critic save MaryAnn will depict as the must-see comedy of the year and yet another reason for me to keep getting my movie selections from Netflix, the local library and TCM.

I bet the funniest scenes of the movie are in that trailer, so I'm dreading this one.
But it has friggin' Salma Hayek in it. How can I resist her?
Tough decision...

Snopes just confirmed the blue pee thing is b.s.

I always wondered about that and never tried.

Now I will fill every pool.

I feel dumber just knowing this movie exists.

I'll only disagree with you on one point. While just about everything else you said seems right on the mark, I don't think there is anything wrong with finding that a woman breastfeeds her four year old a little odd.
