the oh-no! DVD of the week: ‘Bigfoot: Mysterious Monster’

Is it supposed to look like a Scooby-Doo mystery? Perhaps so! Peter Graves hosts this documentary, which proves beyond all doubt that Bigfoot really does exist. And it did so way back in 1975, which is why there is now a Bigfoot delegation at the UN, and why you can’t get a reservation at that hot new Bigfoot cuisine restaurant.

But wait! This isn’t just a straight-up presentation of the documentary: it’s hosted by Mr. Lobo of Cinema Insomnia. Kenneth Hulsey of Cryptomundo (writing at Amazon.com) insists Lobo offers

a very tasteful spoof of BIGFOOT and the people who have devoted their lives to searching for him...it...them

I don’t see how a spoof can ever be tasteful and be effective, but that’s just me.

After the jump, a clip from the documentary, an exciting dramatization of an encounter with the Big Guy...

Oh, MaryAnn, you should watch Cinema Insomnia sometime. I used to run this series when I was doing scheduling for a local PBS station. The host segments on this (IMO) are better than the actual film (ok, that's usually the case for CI...)

Hmm, never heard of Cinema Insomnia before, but The Mysterious Monsters was a formative experience. I even had the Sunn Classics book, which made everything seem awfully convincing (gimme a break, I was, like, seven!)

The movie covered the Loch Ness Monster and Abominable Snowman too, but that gloryhound Bigfoot stole the limelight, as usual.

how can a bigfoot, outside in the dark, cast a shadow on the inside of a lighted window shade?

anyway, we now all know that bigfoots (bigfeet?) are not native to this planet. they are really wookiees and are extraterrestrial in origin.

"Oh my god! The shadow is coming from inside the house!!!"
