trailer break: ‘Love Ranch’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

“There’s no business like ho business”? *headdesk*

I hope that’s not indicative of the level this film is operating on. I expect more from Helen Mirren, at the very least. Though perhaps this is what happens when you work with your spouse -- she’s married to director Taylor Hackford: you don’t realize you’re wearing blinders.

Also: This is the return of Joe Pesci? Sheesh.

Maybe the film is good. The evidence suggests otherwise, however.

Love Ranch is now playing in limited release in the U.S. and Canada; no U.K. release date has been announced.

Judging by the trailer, someone has jammed several film concepts together: ageing woman chooses between husband and young guy, serious film about prostitution, action comedy. In the hands of a good scriptwriter, just one of these would be enough to make a good film... blending them together is likely to work about as well as ice cream with chili sauce.
