what she said: io9’s Charlie Jane Anders...

...on what to call an overload of CGI (in commenting on Predators)

It's a minor miracle to see an action movie in which the action feels organic, and it's not just a flatulence of CG. (By the way, that's officially the plural term for a lot of CG, or several CG effects in one place — a "flatulence." The same way you say a flock of geese, or a murder of crows. "A flatulence of CG." Pass it on.)

Consider it passed on.

I'm currently reading 'An Exaltation of Larks' and I try to memorize at least the more common terms ('a nye of pheasants' for example won't make the mnemonic cut). Going to add a post-it note with 'a flatulence of CG' now *giggles*

hmmm. "flatulence" is now what i would have chosen. "effulent" would have been more my idea. "An outflow from a sewer or sewage system. A discharge of liquid waste, as from a factory or nuclear plant."

I meant to say "NOT what i would have chosen." of course.

Hehehe. In DC we get a lot of tourists, and groups are increasingly going around on Segways. In matching helmets.

Last summer my gang was trying to come up with the appropriate term for this kind of group. The winning suggestion: a slouch of segways.

I soooo wish I had been the one to think of it!

We get those segway tours here, too. In Columbus. Columbus, OH. Now, I love my city, and I think it's a great place to live. But, uh, there's really nothing to tour downtown. Just a bunch of office buildings. "Hey, there's Nationwide's HQ!" "Hey, there's the Ohio Theater!" And... that's about it.

Thanks for spreading the meme!

Chris,

I think you underestimate the thrill of tooling around town - any town - atop an exceedingly silly form of transportation. In matching helmets.

It's really almost Pythonesque, isn't it?
