on my radar: opening 08.13.10 in U.S. and Canadian theaters
Eat Pray Love Scott Pilgrim vs. the World The Expendables *putting on angry humorless feminist hat* “We take back what’s ours”?! What the fuck? Movies belong to boys and men exclusively? It’s not enough that one or two movies this year have apparently struck a chord with women more than with men, and this is emasculating? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know: This is meant to be funny, and if I were only getting laid enough and didn’t have so many damn cats I would realize that. But it only works as “funny” if lots of men really will feel as if their penises have been chopped off if a Julia Roberts movie makes more money than The Expendables this coming weekend. Are men really such fucking babies? [earlier trailer] (review to come) Disqus commentsblog comments powered by Disqus |

Can already see you gave Scott Pilgrim a Red Light of Eternal Doom. Just... be gentle with us alt-indie-comic fans... :{
the Expendables trailer is fan-made, I believe, and not entirely reflective on the fact we guys *had* solid action movies - The Losers, A-Team - this summer. And given that Jean-Claude Van Damme and Vin Diesel is nowhere to be seen for this movie... sniff... whimper...

Yeah, I think Stallone is way too much of a class act these days to make a trailer like that. After following his Q&A sessions on Ain't It Cool News over the past few years, he just seems like an exceedingly sweet guy. A bit of a goofball. Like a rowdy uncle who embarrasses you a little, but you wouldn't trade him for the world. I just like the guy. Even his Will Rogers Institute promos make me want to Make a Special Purchase at the Concession Stand. (Now, if only I liked fountain drinks or popcorn...)

Don't know if I can stand to pay $$ for EPL. The book made me want to punch Gilbert's lights out & embarassed me that she's of my sex.

thank you for putting into words that "while taking a year off and traveling the world as the central character does here certainly is the purview of a very privileged few, the idea of women as their own people should not be a matter of privilege or wealth. "
i read somewhere that ELizabeth Gilbert actually financed her year off herself, from the sale of the story for "coyote ugly". (and i am one of the rare non-followers - i made it past the Rome part of the book, that read as a wonderful travel piece, but once it got into India and all that ashram/prayer/sousearching stuff - i couldn't take it anymore...)

Ah, well. Um, you might want to skip the book. Which I enjoyed, in a 'wow, this bears no resemblance to the life of anyone I know' kind of way, and also in a 'are there really people who live lives like this?!' way. She's quite arch, like many of my favorite (female) blogers, but the privilege drips off the pages. I think the movie will be a hit, but that's only because JR is a likeable, good actress.

oh... see, i thought the "naughty" bit was her actually eating ice cream. these days enjoyment of any full fat, delicious treat (especially by a woman) is the ultimate social sin.
