‘Doctor Who’ thing of the day: is the U.S. government in possession of TARDIS blueprints?

I love it when other TV shows reference Doctor Who, especially if they’re not a SF show. Last season, NCIS (which makes tons of pop culture references) had the resident geek agent McGee say (upon entering a storage space stuffed with tons of guns and, as the movie-fanatic agent says, “a regular Jason Bourne identi-kit”), “Wow, it’s like the TARDIS in here!” When the other agent asks what the hell he’s talking about, McGee responds, “The TARDIS, what Doctor Who uses to travel through time and sp... never mind.” The other agent retorts, “Doctor Who? Who watches that?!”

We were all smiles at my house when Zane made that reference!

There may be a precedent:
1) The Government is interested in Alien Life
2) There is an international Agency to take care of this (UNIT?)
3) Torchwood is coming to the US.
4) The US has plans for the TARDIS?

Hm...possibilities

We know from season three (the Allison/Stark wedding episode) that Vincent at least watches Doctor Who as well. I love that they let their geeks truly be geeks on that show. :o)

don't know about tardis but they do have Tesla's death ray plans

...in the television show "Leverage" I was floored when Nate gave as aliases Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy and Tom Baker. As my stunned self reached for the remote to turn up the volume I heard that Sophie's alias was "Sarah Jane Baker." It turns out the show runners are fans of Moffat and Doctor Who and there are references throughout the series. At one point they use the alias "Detective Moffatt" and "Detective Davies!"

yes... i remember that episode! i love the show, but that bit of a geeky thrill was added to by the episode where nate was john steed and sophie was emma peel.

Also Hardison noted once that, since they were somewhere in the pampa, he had to reroute 3 satellites to torrent the new Doctor Who-Episode.

also, correcting an error in my previous post -- it was Hardison who was john steed in that episode. the only thing i could think was: did *none* of those people they're conning watch the Avengers as kids???
