‘Doctor Who’ thing of the day: it’s bigger on the inside

Reader Erik reminded me of this old British ad for the Volkswagen Gulf car, featuring Peter Davison, Jon Pertwee, and Tom Baker looking surprisingly surprised:

Brilliant. The idea that the car is bigger on the inside is conveyed in an instant. (Funny, but I always felt that way about my old Saturn station wagon, too, which was small but was capable of hauling a lot of crap around.)

I know I’ve seen this before, but I cannot remember where. The ad wouldn’t have run in the U.S., of course -- it wouldn’t have worked on mainstream viewers here -- so maybe it was during one of my trips to England, of which I took a few in the early 90s. (This ad can’t be from later than 1996, which is when Pertwee died.) Or maybe I ran across it in fannish circles at some point...

(If you stumble across a cool Doctor Who thing, feel free to email me with a link.)
