reasons to subscribe at $1 per month: Part VI’m looking for at least 5,000 readers to subscribe to FlickFilosopher.com for at least a buck per month by October 1. GOAL: (Subscription/donation links after the jump.) Today is the 13th anniversary of FlickFilosopher.com. 13 years. Very few movie sites have been around so long -- Harry Knowles’ Ain’t It Cool News began just a few months before this site; so did, I believe, David Poland’s The Hot Button (now part of Movie City News). I’d love to be around for another 13 years, and another 13. I really need your help to make that happen. Unlike Knowles and Poland, I do everything here on my own. I’ve just about reached the extent of Web programming I’m able or willing to learn: the time I’m spending trying to get one stupid Javascript to work would be much better put to use watching movies and writing reviews. When I began this subscription drive, one reader suggested it would be awesome if all the regular readers subscribed. If that were to happen, I would be able to hire a Web pro to soup up this site in ways that would make it even more enjoyable to hang out at. And that would leave me time to devote entirely to making content for your amusement. Won’t you please subscribe at only $1 per month? You can pay in almost any currency, and PayPal or Amazon will deal with the conversion. Considering how weak the U.S. dollar is at the moment, it’s a particular deal if you’re outside the U.S.... but it’s a bargain for anyone. Just $1 per month is all I’m asking. I really need many more readers to step up and kick in some pocket change. Thank you. (More reasons to come...)
Subscriptions are set to run monthly until you cancel. I hope you’ll let it run for at least 12 months. Or, make a one-time donation of at least $12/£10/whatever the equivalent is in your currency: Donate via PayPal any amount (in almost any currency): (Sorry, I can’t accept donations via Amazon Payments. That’s Amazon’s restriction, not mine.) And since readers asked for more options, here are a few. If you want more options, just let me know and I shall oblige:

Come on people, you know you love this site...

I think that one of the issues is that there is a long time frame to sign up. I keep saying to myself, oh I have to sign up... but then I see that the deadline is a month away and I figure I will do it next time. There is no urgency.

Come on, people! A US$1 a month! For the price of one pack of cigarettes, or a bottle of beer, you could pay for a couple of months of TFF! And it's better for you too...just think of how much you'll save by skipping movies that stick! How much smarter you'll appear to your friends and family! Have memes and deep thoughts about pop culture and politics and lolcats will trip off your tongue to your coworkers! Do it for Maryann, but more importantly, Do It For Yourself...
...you know you want to.

I WILL MATCH UP TO 5 PEOPLE per month. I'm already signed up for myself, so what's another 5 bucks a month?
I'm thinking about it this way: Until about 18 months ago I didn't think twice about spending $6 per DAY on a legal substance that would KILL ME (quit smoking April '09). And I have been squirreling away a lot of my previous cigarette money towards my kid's college fun. But an extra $5/month donated to a small, independent, woman-owned American business that provides really entertaining info on the media in general? That's a win-win.
Seriously, MAJ, if you let me know about 5 people who sign up from now until 24 hours from now (right now, it's 11:30pm EST), I'll match their monthly donation up to $5 per month (in addition to my current $1/month donation).
If I feel like being totally self-serving, I'll just look at it as a monthly reminder of my triumph over cigarette addiction, which ruled my life for 30 years.
Who's up for the challenge?

wow! that's very generous (and probably realistic) of you, i must say.

My kids paying for his own college FUN. I'll have no part in it.
; - )
I'm saddened to see this not going as well as you had hoped MaryAnn. I really wanted to be proven wrong on this one.
People are just too used to not paying for things on the internet.
One freakin' dollar people. Stop being a cheap ass and help her out.
Actually, it's not really help is it? It's payment for services rendered. If you come here often and enjoy what she does, then plunk down a little cashola in appreciation.

@markyd: Hee. Yes, you're right, I really ought to make them pay for their own college fun. (obvs i meant 'fund').
@bronxbee: considering I get more entertainment reading the entries on this site that I would from any magazine subscription, $6/month seems pretty cheap, actually!

I've done it, I chose the one time donation of $12 because I used my husband's paypal account and I didn't want to make him pay off $1 every month on his credit card since he hardly uses it otherwise. Remind us again this time next year if you still need help. I really enjoy your site, your reviews, and the interesting things that you bring up and lead us in discussing. Hope my donation helps! :)

You're very generous, Anne-Kari, but I'm not sure there's much point in your generosity. Two people became subscribers in your 24 hour period. Two.
I'm gonna go slit my wrists now...

Well then I'm extending my own deadline. Until whenever.
C'mon, people, sign up. It breaks down to around 3 pennies a day. You can't tell me you don't lose around 3 pennies in your bag or your couch on a daily basis.
