trailer break: ‘My Soul to Take’

Gotta love that voiceover that opens the trailer, how the guy’s voice catches before he says “my soul to take,” as if he knows his soul is about to be, you know, taken. It works great, actually: Just find any old quote from any old musty book that alludes to death, have someone read it over some footage of foggy woods, with some plinking excuse for music on the soundtrack:

Yea, though I walk through the valley of -- *gulp* -- the shadow of death...

Bam! It’s Wes Craven’s The Shadow of Death 3D. The script writes itself. Cast a bunch of anonymous young Hollywood cannon fodder. Shoot in British Columbia. Coming to a theater near you January 2012.

That one won’t screen for critics either...

My Soul to Take opens in the U.S. and Canada on October 8, and in the U.K. on January 14, 2011.
