uncool: News Anchor Barbie

I’m not sure which is worse: that News Anchor Barbie -- “A flair for journalism – and power pink!” -- looks like something out of a Victoria’s Secret catalogue, or that girls around the world actually aspire to sit in front of a camera and smile as they announce the latest body count. Because if Mattel is to believed, girls do aspire to this:

Barbie® I Can Be...™ dolls and accessories empower girls to play out different roles and "try on" fabulous careers, including news anchor, the first Barbie® profession chosen by global vote. Wearing a posh pink suit with black accents and carrying a B News folder, camera and microphone, this savvy journalist reports up-to-the-minute news in signature Barbie® style. The inspiring set also comes with a special code that unlocks career-themed content online, for even more digital play!

I wonder what that digital play involves. Fending off the juvenile sexual advances of right-wing puppet boys, perhaps? Or maybe defending herself against sexual harrassment because she shouldn’t be so hot in the first place? After all, we must prepare girls for their chosen careers.
