question of the day: If Eric Stoltz could have been Marty McFly, what other 80s movies might have been differently cast?Did you know that Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly in Back to the Future? I seem to vaguely recall hearing something along those lines, but now there’s video evidence... because Robert Zemeckis actually shot for weeks before deciding that Stoltz was wrong for the role. Take a look: This is from the new 25th-anniversary Back to the Future trilogy DVD box set, which will released on October 25 in Region 2 [Amazon U.K.], and on October 26 in Region 1 [Amazon U.S.] [Amazon Canada]. Stoltz is a great actor, but it’s hard to imagine him as Marty McFly: the tenor of the film would have been fantastically different. And it’s hard to imagine BTTF without Michael J. Fox. That said, let’s imagine other films without the people they ended up starring. If Eric Stoltz could have been Marty McFly, what other 80s movies might have been differently cast? What if, say, Eddie Murphy had played Winston in Ghostbusters? What if Charlie Sheen had played Ferris Bueller? What if John Travolta had starred in Blade Runner? Have fun...
